IMPROVISATION FIELD TECHNIQUE 1 & 2

12/07/2023

July 21 - 23 IFT 1/ July 24 - 28 IFT 2

IFT 1

-STAGE PRESENCE

(3 DAYS)

Improvisation Field Technique offers an intuitive approach to the artistic process. It is a tool for navigating the experience of inspiration and "not knowing".

The focus of this weekend course is a deep dive into stage presence, breath, spatial awareness and how physical and emotional impulses can create energy fields, characters and stories.

The course is a thorough introduction to the core elements of Improvisation Field Technique, and a "warm-up" for those who participate in the 5-day course. If you have worked with Sarah before, you can see this weekend as a repetition that deepens your understanding, as much as it will be a time to land on the site.

We work with the elements that lead to whatever you are going to do on stage. Such as breath, spatial awareness, connection inward and outward, imaginary spaces, emotional energy fields and how the story or expression emerges from them.

Bring: Clothes you feel comfortable in. A notebook and pen.

Structure: The teaching will be centered around body warm-up, group exercises (on the course theme), meditation, self-reflection & sharing.

Previous knowledge: No prior knowledge is required. All types of (aspiring) performing artists can participate (actors, performance artists, improvisers, singers, dancers...).

Date: 21 - 23 July (3 days)

Language: Sarah teaches in English, but understands Swedish, Danish and Norwegian. You can speak the language you want.

IFT 2

-IMPROVISED SCENES AND LONGFORM

(5 DAYS)

The focus of this 5-day course is improvised scenes and "longforms". We will develop characters, improvise dialogue and work with the psychological presence of phenomena/characters that are not physically present in the scene (eg an angel, a deceased father, an unborn child...).

An important part of IFT is that it teaches you how to get past the mental noise of "good and smart ideas" and the self-censoring voice of the inner critic. The technique cultivates your trust in the intuitive and refines your ability to listen to the inner logic of emotional impulses.

Keywords: Energy fields, imaginary spaces, coherence & internal logic.

Structure: A combination of group exercises and masterclass teaching.

Bring: Clothes you feel comfortable in. We will do a physical warm-up in the morning.

Previous knowledge: It is an absolute plus - but not a requirement - if you take the weekend course in preparation for this 5-day course or that you have taken courses with Sarah before.

Date: 24 - 28 July (5 days)

Language: Sarah teaches in English, but understands Swedish, Danish and Norwegian. You can speak the language you want.
