July 17 - 21

This course aims to help you master the guitar! Through the extremely "guitaristic" technique that the flamenco guitar offers, you will get tools for your playing regardless of the genre you normally devote yourself to. Mastering the guitar is a door to unleashing creativity and it enables you to embrace new styles of music.

We don't limit ourselves to just playing chords, scales, theory or strumming notes. No, we want the guitar to become an extension of your musicality and to get there the guitar needs to become part of your body. The rhythm, the different techniques and the interaction with others are fundamental, as well as finding your own way of sitting and physically relating to the instrument. The days will be designed so that we work together with different guitar techniques for the first hour and the rest of the day we learn a piece of music that opens the door to the versatile and fantastic universe of the guitar. In order to adapt the learning to the individual, time is also set aside to see each other, teacher and student.

Arrangement: We get to know each other, the course leader Afra talks and plays and introduces the content of the course. We start by feeling different techniques and how we can sit and feel comfortable with the guitar. Then we bite into the course material. Course leader: Afra Rubino

Afra's music bears witness to the currents of guitar music: classic flamenco, Latin American rhythms, music tradition and innovative compositions in their own cascade. In Andalusia she studied with Spanish guitar masters and taught and toured for several years. In 2012 she was included in the Spanish documentary "Tocaoras" as one of the few foreign female flamenco guitarists and in 2017 she was one of five female guitarists portrayed in a major report in the Spanish newspaper El País under the name "Ellas dan el toque" ("The women tackling the macho world of flamenco guitar", in the English version). She has opened for living guitar legend Vicente Amigo and toured with Spain's premier female flamenco guitarist Antonia Jiménez. In 2018, she performed at flamenco and guitar festivals in Spain and England together with percussionist Nasrine Rahmani and in connection with this also collaborated with flamenco legend Paco de Lucia's harmonica player Antonio Serrano and Spain's most sought-after double bass player, Javier Colina. Since 2016, she has been working repeatedly with her project "The Double Bass Project", together with the Swedish double bassist Peter Janson and the singer Helena Ek, and since 2017 she has been part of flamenco guitarist Robert "Robi" Svärd's touring band. In December 2017, she was awarded the STIM scholarship (Svenska Tonsättares International Musikbyrå's composition scholarship), which gave room for the development of new music. In 2016 she was awarded the "Guitar People's Prize" under the category "Up and coming", where she was nominated by the guitarist Göran Söllscher.
