July 18-July 22. 5 days

Based on personal conflicts and oppression, we work to create art that illuminates and touches on a larger level. We move between art and activism, between classical techniques and new techniques and create art that moves from the private to the public space and into the political sphere. We explore art as a valve for anger and frustration, while undergoing joyful creative processes.

The course begins with an introduction to Anders Sunna's art and background and is then followed by collective and individual creation. We use and explore various techniques such as drawing, painting and sculpture of both common and unusual materials.

The course is suitable for those who are interested in political art, art and activism and art as resistance.

Course leader: Anders Sunna (SA)

Anders Sunna was born in 1985 in Kieksiäisvaara in Tornedalen, educated at Konstfack in Stockholm and now lives in Jokkmokk. The starting point in his art is often the history of his own family and the long-standing conflict with the County Administrative Board's Reindeer Husbandry Delegation in Norrbotten. In his art, Sunna works with thick layers of paint, graffiti, collage, prints and with larger installations and motifs that depict oppression against the Sami. Sunna is one of the artists who will represent Sápmi in the Nordic pavilion during the Venice Biennale in 2022.
